Formlabs Form 3
Information
The Formlabs Form 3 is our research and engineering resin printer that utilizes a laser to cure liquid resins to produce smooth, solid, and very high precision models in a very wide selection of materials. The AMS has 2 of these printers and a wash/cure station for prints on the Professional Print Queue for research labs, AE class projects, and clubs. Once your part is printed, it is washed in an IPA bath and then cured using UV light at a set temperature to fully cure the resin which increases processing time.
The Form 3 material selection is very wide, though resins are expensive, so most parts not requiring waterproof or extremely special properties are printed on other FDM pro printers. In general, most resin prints are heavier and much more brittle compared to FDM printing. During the curing process, the part may warp from the heat.
For any prints going on the Bambus, a mentor will slice an STL file for you through the PreForm software and approve it for the Pro Print Queue.
All resin prints are solid, watertight, and have smooth surfaces free of visible layer lines.
Draft, White, Black, Model, or Gray resin is used for regular parts
Tough resins have a high impact hardness
Rigid resins have high tensile properties
Clear resins are optically transparent
Special resins such as ESD-safe and Transparent resins also exist. See the Formlabs Store. Note that a new tray is required with each material type, so the AMS does not stock every type of resin.
