Resin Print Safety

Handing Resin

Liquid photopolymer resin and its vapors are toxic, environmentally hazardous, and skin-sensitizing. Repeated exposure can cause allergic reactions and chronic respiratory problems.

Uncured resin (liquid) is NOT safe. Fully cured resin is generally safe to handle, but it is not food or heat-safe, and resin dust generated from sanding, cutting, or drilling resin is hazardous if inhaled.

Some important steps to take when handing resin:

  1. Always wear nitrile gloves (never latex) when touching anything with uncured resin.

    1. Do not touch anything that is "clean" with a dirty glove

  2. Safety glasses are recommended if working with tubs of liquid resin

    1. Avoid splashing when pouring or removing prints

  3. Keep resin containers and tubs sealed or closed when not in use

  4. Do not eat or drink near resin printers

Resin Disposal

Resin-contaminated waste is disposed of through EHS by the Safety Committee.

  • Collect all towels, gloves, prints, supports, and debris that came in contact with uncured resin

  • Dispose of all SOLID waste in the bucket underneath the table

  • Dispose of all LIQUID waste (resin or contaminated IPA) in the carboy underneath the table
