General Information:

A motorized tool designed to bore holes in wood, metal or plastic. We keep a range of drill bits in one of the main drawers, underneath the handheld power tools.

Safety Basics:

The Drill Press can be very dangerous if used incorrectly. All of the following MUST be done while operating the machine:

• Personal Safety:

  • Wear safety glasses at all times

  • Tie back hair, remove any loose or dangling jewelery, make sure sleeves are rolled up

• Environmental Safety:

  • Turn on ventilation before operation

  • Sweep up any excess sawdust after operation

• Operational Safety:

  • Have a trained AMS mentor present with you in the wood room

  • Securely clamp your material - make sure you CANNOT shift it

  • Turn off drill press if making adjustments or cleaning

  • Tighten the drill-bit in the chuck before using

How to Use:

1. Clamp material down securely

2. Turn on the drill light if necessary

3. Turn on the Drill press, pull down the quill handle

4. Pull the drill back up once the hole has been created. Ensure to put scrap wood underneath material if hoping to create a through-hole

5. Turn off the drill press

6. Clean the surface of saw dust with the shop vac
